This course offers a practical introduction to the operational oceanographic services developed and maintained by INCOIS, designed to familiarize participants with the data, tools, and advisory systems used in real-world maritime decision-making. Covering areas from ocean state forecasting and tidal prediction to marine heat wave alerts, oil spill modelling, ship routing, and harmful algal bloom monitoring, the course connects INCOIS's operational products directly to their use in navigation, safety, and disaster preparedness.

Aims and objectives:

• Familiarize participants with INCOIS data services, portals, and access tools (LAS, EESP, FAST, Samudra App).
• Build understanding of Ocean State Forecast (OSF), High Wave Alert, and RSMC services for operational use.
• Introduce Marine Heat Wave advisories, oil spill modelling, and optimal ship routing tools.
• Develop working knowledge of tidal theory, prediction methods, and INCOIS tidal services.
• Provide exposure to climate indices (ENSO, IOD, SST anomaly outlook) and their relevance to seasonal planning.
• Enable participants to present and discuss operational case studies relevant to their own service.

Target Audience:

The training course is designed for the following target audience:

• Personnel involved in operational decision-making that draws on ocean information services, as well as researchers and professionals seeking a working understanding of INCOIS's operational oceanography products.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the range of INCOIS operational services and how to access them through data portals and apps.
• Interpret Ocean State Forecasts, High Wave Alerts, and RSMC and Multi-Hazard Vulnerability Mapping outputs for operational use.
• Apply Marine Heat Wave advisory information and oil spill model outputs to real-world scenarios.
• Use tools such as SARAT for optimal ship routing.
• Access and interpret harmful algal bloom advisories through ABIS.
• Develop basic skills in scripting, data visualization, and automation of model workflows.

Note:

Support for attending:No travel expenses (including to-and-fro travel charges) will be reimbursed to the selected trainees. However, accommodation (on twin-sharing basis) will be provided on first-cum first-served basis at our Guest House on payment of nominal charges to students upon production of Identity cards. Scholar can use their contingency to pay the charges.

Mode of Attendance:

The training course is offered in hybrid mode (physical & online), allowing participants to choose the most suitable mode for them. Link will for joining the course will be shared will in advance with the shortlisted candidates.

All foreign nationals who have registered for the training courses are mandatorily requested to attend the training programme through the online mode only, as obtaining the necessary clearances and approvals from MEA for physical participation is not possible within the available timeframe.

Certificate:

All participants who have attended all the sessions in hybrid mode and duly submitted the completed assignments as given by the instructors at the end of the course will be provided a course completion certificate.
