Programmes

Ocean Decade Programmes are large-scale, coordinated initiatives implemented at global or regional scales that contribute to the achievement of one or more Ocean Decade Challenges. These Programmes are designed to deliver transformative impact by aligning science, policy, and societal needs over the long term.
Programmes are typically:

  • Long-term and multi-year
  • Interdisciplinary, integrating natural, social, and applied sciences
  • Multi-national, involving partners across regions and sectors
Each Programme is composed of multiple component projects, which may be fully defined, partially defined, or developed progressively over time following endorsement. This flexible structure allows Programmes to adapt, scale, and respond to emerging scientific priorities and regional needs.
Through Programmes, the Ocean Decade enables sustained collaboration, resource mobilisation, and coordinated action to address complex ocean challenges at meaningful scales.
